Our Students’ Performance at the Vojtěch Jarník International Mathematical Competition

From 21 to 23 April 2026, the 33rd edition of the international student mathematics competition Vojtěch Jarník International Mathematical Competition took place in Ostrava, Czech Republic. A total of 97 students participated in the competition, divided into two categories: 56 students competed in the first category (up to 22 years of age), while 41 students competed in the second category (up to 25 years of age). In both categories, contestants solved four problems over the course of four hours, with each problem worth 10 points. The problems were selected by a committee consisting of around twenty representatives from approximately fifty problems proposed by the participating universities.

Our students also took part in the competition, accompanied by teaching assistant Ivan Vuković: Petar Lukavec, Matej Marošević, and Ena Valenta. Petar and Ena competed in the first category, while Matej competed in the second category. In a strong field of competitors, Ena achieved 26th place, Petar 38th place, and Matej 31st place. For her success, Ena received an “Honourable Mention” award. We congratulate our students on their achievements and believe that many more excellent results lie ahead of them.

We are also proud of our colleagues, Dr. Daria Brajković Zorić and Associate Professor Dr. Mirela Jukić Bokun, who proposed problems on behalf of our Faculty, both of which were selected for the competition.
