On Thursday, 15 October 2026, an introductory meeting with incoming Erasmus+ students was held at the Dean’s Office of the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. The School’s Vice-Dean for Teaching and Students, Associate Professor Zoran Tomljanović, PhD, led the meeting. Also in attendance were the School’s Erasmus+ Academic Coordinator, Associate Professor Ivan Papić, PhD, and Zvonimir Šego, a representative of the School’s Student Union.

On Monday, October 5, 2026, the Dean’s Welcome Address for first-year students was held at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. The Dean of the School, Prof. Kristian Sabo, PhD, welcomed the new students and introduced them to Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek and the School.

Classes for all undergraduate students will begin on Monday, October 5, 2026, according to the schedule. In particular, the Dean’s Welcome Session for first-year undergraduate students will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, in Lecture Hall 2, starting at 9:00 a.m. Following the welcome session, classes will be held according to the schedule. Classes for graduate students will begin on October 12, 2026, according to the schedule.

On July 15, 2026, the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics held a session of its Economic Council at which the planned changes to the undergraduate study programs were presented. Representatives of the business community took part in a productive discussion and expressed strong support for the proposed direction of the reform. The reform thoroughly restructures the two existing undergraduate programs in order to align them more closely with the needs of the labor market and with contemporary technological trends, above all in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to the latest data from the 2025 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), the scientific journal Mathematical Communications, published by the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, has been ranked in the Q1 quartile in the Mathematics category. The journal achieved a Journal Impact Factor of 1.2 and was ranked 115th among 492 journals in this category.

In April, the 33rd edition of the international competition Vojtěch Jarník International Mathematical Competition was held, bringing together nearly one hundred participants from various countries. Among them were students from our Faculty, who achieved notable results.

This week, the international mathematics competition “International Youth Math Challenge” was concluded. The competition is intended for high school and university students from all around the world. Schools and universities from more than 100 countries participated, placing it among the larger international competitions of this kind.

The School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in Osijek proudly organizes the Osijek Competitive Programming Camp (OCPC) 2026, a unique international training camp and competition in competitive programming, intended for students and teams from all around the world. OCPC is an intensive program designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in solving algorithmic problems and to prepare them for major competitions such as the ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest).

At the beginning of the new academic year, a special group was formed at Mathos for students interested in participating in international mathematics competitions. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen students’ problem-solving skills and to introduce them to advanced techniques and strategies necessary for success in top-level competitions.

At the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Wroclaw in Poland, the Central European Regional Contest (CERC) of the ICPC programming competition was held from December 5 to 7, 2025. A total of 70 teams from 31 universities from eight Central European countries participated: Austria, Czechia, Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
