Our students at CERC 2025: participation of the MathOs team in Wroclaw

At the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Wroclaw in Poland, the Central European Regional Contest (CERC) of the ICPC programming competition was held from December 5 to 7, 2025. A total of 70 teams from 31 universities from eight Central European countries participated: Austria, Czechia, Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Framework for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools at mathos

The Council of the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics (mathos) has adopted the Framework for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. The Framework promotes ethical, responsible, and transparent application of AI technologies in accordance with academic and research standards. It defines acceptable and unacceptable uses of AI tools, outlines responsibilities of authors, and establishes principles of good practice.

New HRZZ Projects at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics

The School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics has achieved significant success in the Croatian Science Foundation calls IP-2025-02 and UIP-2025-02, in which two new projects have been approved: IP-2025-02 – Research Project “Optimization of Parameter-Dependent Systems with Applications”, Principal Investigator: Prof. Zoran Tomljanović and UIP-2025-02 – Installation Research Project “Development of Hyperheuristics for a Heterogeneous-Machine Environment with Additional Resources”, Principal Investigator: Prof. Mateja Đumić.

Revised profile of the journal Mathematical Communications

After reviewing previous periods, it has been concluded that the time is right for a new step forward in the development of the international scientific journal Mathematical Communications. It has been decided that Mathematical Communications will no longer serve as a general mathematics journal but will instead become a specialized publication focused on applied mathematics, probability, and statistics. The journal will continue to be published in diamond open access and will cover a broad spectrum of topics within these areas – ranging from theoretical research to the application of mathematical methods in solving complex problems.

ARDena – Next-Generation Humanoid Behavioral Virtual Assistant

Meet Intelligent Innovations Ltd., a spin-off company of the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in Osijek, is currently developing ARDena – an innovative digital human powered by advanced technologies in computer vision, natural language processing, and augmented reality. The project is supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO), with the goal of developing a pre-commercial technology that enables people to communicate with machines as naturally as with other human beings.

Monograph of the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics

To mark the 25th anniversary of its founding, the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics has prepared the monograph 25 Years Later, offering a concise yet comprehensive overview of the institution’s development from its beginnings to the present day. Over the past quarter century, the School has grown into one of the leading centers for higher education and research in applied mathematics and computer science in eastern Croatia. The monograph highlights the expansion of study programs, the steady growth in student and staff numbers, and the strengthening of scientific and professional activities.

4th Workshop on Optimal Control of Dynamical Systems and Applications

4th Workshop on Optimal Control of Dynamical Systems and Applications will be held 26 – 28 Feb 2025 in Villany, Hungary. Workshop is organized by Osijek Mathematical Society and School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek.

New HRZZ Project at the School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

On December 16, 2024, at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, University of Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek, a new research project titled Metric Properties of Graphs (MetGraph) will commence. The project is funded by the Croatian Science Foundation and will run from December 2024 to December 2027.
